  1. 1.I think that the section ‘More is Better’ is called that because even though she’s in a safer place it is not better to her. I think this because in the story all the kids are teasing her about her name and no one in Vietnam would do that because they know thats a Vietnamese name and they should respect that. As it says in the story “when they make fun of my name, yelling ha-ha-ha down the hall”

    2. The photographs were the long S shape of Vietnam, green mountains and long beaches, a statue of the Buddha reclining. The reason Miss Scott is showing these is because to show where Ha is from and what is going on in Vietnam and why they had to come to America.

    1. I agree that the class needs to respect Ha and her name. Even though Ha is from a different country doesn't mean that the class has the right to treat her like that. Great post!!!

  2. I think the chapter is called More Is Not Better because most people think that more of something is better but that is not the case for Ha. The kids are being a lot more mean and you don’t want more of that. I also think that because the text says, “ More is not better. I now understand when they make fun of my name, yelling ha- ha- ha down the hall, when they ask if I eat dog meat, barking and chewing and falling down laughing.” That text shows that she understands that more can be better but not when you are being made fun of. The pictures that Miss Scott was showing was pictures of Vietnam and what is happening in Vietnam. The purpose of showing the class the pictures was to show where Ha was coming from, what Ha has been through, and to show that the class was lucky to not have to live like that.

  3. The Chapter “More is not better” is called “More is not better” because, the more she understands the more she has to know what these insults mean. Like when the kids in the book ask Ha if she eats dog meat. She is understanding english more so she knows what that means.

The significance of the pictures that Ha’s teacher showed the class are important because, maybe they know what it is like in her old home so they can respect her in her new home. When they see sinking ships and bombs going off maybe they can respect her for moving here.

  4. In the book Inside Out and Back Again there is a chapter called More is Not Better. I think this chapter means that even though she is in a better country there still is a lot of teasing. I think what the word More means in this chapter is there is more chances of her being safe then in Vietnam. I think what the word Better means in this chapter is even though she is safe from the war where she lived doesn’t mean she is safe from everything. An example of when she is not really safe and not completely ok, is everyday after school the pink boy chases her and tries to punch her and almost put her in the hospital. But at least she knows how to defend herself and fight back. I think at the end of the story she will be ok though.
In this story the teacher shows a picture of Vietnam. I think the point of showing the class a picture of Vietnam is to show where she lived. Another point of show the picture is that it is not that different to where they live because in the book it says Vietnam still has green mountains and long beaches. But I don’t think this helped the class to not make fun of her country. They now say Boo-Da, Boo-Da because there was a statue of the Buddha reclining. I Miss Scout could have shown them a different picture.

  5. The chapter is called ‘More Is Not Better’ because people are making fun of Ha and if they do that more, it is not better. They were yelling ha-ha-ha down the hall and that is an example of more is not better because she doesn’t want more of that to happen to her. And another or the same way is that they laugh when they ask her if she eats dog meat and then they fall down on the ground, laughing. The important photographs were of the S shape of Vietnam because that’s where Ha and her family used to live, of green mountains and long beaches, of the statue of the Buddha reclining. Their significance was that Miss Scott showed them the important pictures because to show her old home and so people can treat her nicely at her new home and at her new school that she is already at.
